A status of residence for those granted permanent residency. There is no limit on the period of stay, no renewal required, and no restrictions on employment. Your original nationality is retained.
A status of residence granted by the Minister of Justice based on special circumstances, with a designated period of stay. Eligible categories include third-generation Japanese descendants (Nikkeijin), their spouses, resettled refugees, and Japanese remaining in China.
A status of residence for the spouse of a Japanese national, a child of a Japanese national, or a child adopted through a special adoption. Typically applied for in cases of international marriage with residence in Japan.
A status of residence for the spouse of a permanent resident or special permanent resident, or for a child born in Japan who has continuously resided there.
A status of residence for the spouse or child of a foreign national working or studying in Japan, allowing them to live together in Japan as dependents.
A status of residence for activities individually designated by the Minister of Justice. It covers various categories such as domestic helpers, EPA nurses and caregivers, post-graduation job seekers, parents brought to Japan by their children, and foreign entrepreneurs, each with its own eligibility requirements.
A status of residence for long-term stays in Japan for the purpose of tourism or recuperation (Specified Activities No. 40 and No. 41). Applicants must meet certain asset requirements and may stay for up to one year.
